Attendance Policy

 Dear Eastvalley Parents,

Eastvalley Elementary’s first month of school was fantastic! It is going to be a great 2015-2016 school year.

As you know, your child’s daily attendance in school is critical to his/her academic success. It is very important for your child to arrive at Eastvalley by 7:50am, which is the start of the instructional day, and stay until the 2:20pm dismissal bell. I am writing to you today to share significant changes to our attendance practices/procedures.

Every school in the State of Georgia receives an annual school rating called the College and Career Readiness Index (CCRPI). There are many factors that contribute to Eastvalley’s CCRPI score and attendance will now be a key component to calculating the CCRPI score. Beginning this school year, all student absences over 5 will have a negative impact on our overall CCRPI score and decrease the score. This means that all absences, regardless of excused or unexcused, will be closely monitored so Eastvalley can be proactive to limit the number of students who have 6 or more absences. Eastvalley Elementary is a wonderful school and we are doing our best to increase our CCRPI score and we do not want attendance to decrease the score.

Now, please let me clarify this new information. Some absences are unavoidable and even necessary at times. This includes celebrating religious holidays, experiencing a death in the family, surgery, vomiting, and fever. Please do not send your sick child to Eastvalley! We do not want students who may be contagious at school who could possibly spread germs and cause other children to get sick. However, if your child has a minor ailment, please send him/her to school. In addition, we ask that you make every effort to schedule family vacations during Cobb County School District holidays and schedule your child’s doctor’s appointments after school.

All of these efforts will improve Eastvalley’s attendance, increase our CCRPI score, and benefit your child academically. Eastvalley will continue to educate our school community about how our students’ attendance performance impacts our CCRPI score. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at Kendall.Foster@cobbk12.org or 770-578-7214.

Sincerely,

Kendall Foster
